Photoshop - reduce noise.
Reduce Noise in Photoshop.
Noise is a common occurrence in photography when the setting of the ISO is too high or if you are using a cheap digital camera. The best way to avoid this is to lower the ISO before you shoot or upgrade your camera. This may not be possible if you are photographing in low light conditions or if you are shooting with a hand-held camera.
Most photo editing software has a Despeckle filter to remove digital ISO noise. Applying this filter generally removes problems due to digital ISO noise.
This example is based on Photoshop Elements 2
To get started, you will need the original layer to be copied, so you can work on the copy and keep the original untouched. If you need to compare the original image with work carried out, you can turn off all other layers.
To reduce noise automatically go to Filters > Reduce Noise Filter. Adjust the slider to obtain good results.
Your image may also need to be sharpened. Go to Filters >Sharpen > Unsharp Mask.
The Amount tool changes how much sharpening you will apply. The Radius tool changes how the sharpening is applied. It is generally recommended to keep the radius low. The Threshold tool allows you to set how much of the original image to keep.
