Using filters in Photoshop.

Filters can be added to your image using Photoshop. The following is an example of using a warm-up filter in Photoshop.

Photoshop has a great range of filters and is the perfect tool for editing your pictures. This takes about five minutes to complete and will leave your image with the traditional filter effect.

First step is to open the image that you want to use and save a copy of the original appearance.

Once this is done you are ready to begin.

We are going to create the filter on a separate layer. Go to   Window > Layers and click on Create A New Layer.

To fill the layer similar to that of an 81 series warm up filter go to Layers > Fill Layer and select Solid Colour. At the bottom of the colour picker enter FFA200 and click ok

Now go back to the layer palette and click where it says: Normal - now select colour to make your image appear. You can change the strength of the filter by clicking Opacity and entering a value that will suit or that looks best.

Filters can be also used with Photoshop to create the opposite effect or to cool down an image - use the same principle as above but use a blue tone for your Photoshop filter.

Filters can be used in many different ways. Return weekly to learn more Photoshop skills.
